The following is an excerpt starting on page 49 of Will You Spread My Word For Me? WOLF IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING
Tim and I were standing next to some fencing by the park entrance, waiting for Jimmy. Jimmy had been stopped by a passerby who was asking him some questions. My head turned to see a man standing on the path looking at me. He was dressed very nicely in a sports jacket, dress shirt, dress pants, and shoes. He was holding a rolled up newspaper. I instantaneously thought to myself, “Cool, someone who looks interested!” My arm immediately extended toward him to hand him a leaflet, as I said, ME: Would you like one? HIM: What group are you? ME: We are Catholic Missionaries, (but I figured that the big pair of wooden rosaries hanging from my belt and the Papal cross on my shirt already gave that away.) We are promoting the big Corpus Christi procession being held at Saint Patrick’s on Saturday. (After I said that, he came over to me.) HIM: I will go if you can answer just one question for me. (He sat down on the fence and began to talk about the Immaculate Conception saying,) HIM: Now as a Catholic, you know that the Immaculate Conception is a Dogma of the Church. On December 8th, the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, you are obligated to attend Mass. It is a sin if you don’t. (I thought it was great to hear someone who knew the teachings of the Church, which caused me to smile.) HIM: If you do not believe in this Dogma, you are subject to excommunication and damnation to hell. ME: Wa, um, ahh, well, ah I guess you could say that; but, um … Don’t you think that is an extreme way of putting it? HIM: Do you know what this Dogma states? Can you explain it to me? (Turning toward my teammate Tim, I asked,) ME: Do you mind if I take this one? TIM: Go ahead. (I turned back to the gentleman and said,) ME: Well, the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception states that Mary was conceived without original sin. This did not happen by her own merits, faith, or works. She too was redeemed by the merits that Our Lord Jesus Christ won for us on the cross. The difference between her and everyone else is that God chose to grant her this saving grace at the very moment of her conception, whereas we receive it through our Baptism. HIM: Well, you are one in ten thousand Catholics who actually knows this Dogma. My Grandmother went to her grave clamping a rosary in her hand, and she didn’t even know the meaning of that Dogma. (I sensed a little resentment in his voice, but I didn’t think much of it at this point. I was still under the impression that he was a Catholic who knew his faith, especially after mentioning his devout Grandmother.) HIM: Now, the Assumption. We have no documents on this at all. It is not in Scripture, yet Catholics believe and teach this manmade Doctrine as if it were true. ME: Have you ever heard of the prophet Elijah? HIM: Yes. ME: Yes, and we know that he was taken from the earth on a chariot, body and soul. (2 Kings 2:11… The gentleman remained quiet, and I continued.) Have you ever heard of Enoch in the book of Hebrews? He was a righteous man who was taken up from the earth. (Heb 11:5) HIM: Yes. ME: So, what is to prevent Jesus from taking His own Mother up into heaven body and soul? HIM: But there is no documentation of this event, yet Catholics preach it. ME: If you study history, and the early Christian times, you will find that people were extreme and almost morbid in the ways they would obtain relics of the Saints. (He jumped in saying,) HIM: Relics, now there is another big problem with you Catholics. You bow down to these little things. That is idolatry. (I patiently and calmly responded,) ME: Hold on. I will explain that to you in a minute. First, let me finish telling you about the Assumption. The point I am trying to make is that towns would claim the bodies of Saints as their own. They knew of the miraculous graces God granted through these righteous souls. Everyone knew where the bodies of these Saints were. They kept careful records of them, yet there are no records of the Blessed Mother’s body or where she was buried. The reason there are no records is because her body is not here. People couldn’t claim her body or take relics because God assumed her into heaven. Now let’s discuss relics. HIM: Yeah, you Catholics commit idolatry when you bow down to a relic. ME: Have you ever heard of the prophet Elisha? HIM: Yes. ME: When they put the body of a dead man in Elisha’s tomb, the man came back to life the moment his body came in contact with Elisha’s bones (2 King 13:20-21). Have you ever read in the New Testament how the people asked for just the cloth that touched Saint Paul? They intended to use the cloth to cure people. (Acts 19:11-12) Or how about when they would line the streets with ill people in hopes that just the shadow of Saint Peter would touch them so that they would be cured. (Acts 5:15-16) We know there is power in relics based on these faith stories in Scripture. We don’t worship relics. We view them as sacred because of the powers that God grants through them. HIM: Okay, I can see the validity of relics now, but I have a question for you that no Catholic has ever been able to answer. I am a student of theology and considered a Theologian. Recently, I was in a debate with Karl Keating, whom I am sure you have heard of, and you’ve probably read his material. Actually, I was only present at one of his debates, not in it. At the end, I stood up and asked him this question, and he could not answer it. As you know, all we have of what Jesus said is written in Greek, and in the Greek, when Jesus refers to Peter in Matthew 16:18. (I cut him off and said,) ME: Yeah, Yeah, Petros, Petra everyone has heard this whole argument about what Jesus meant by calling Peter rock, but we know that Jesus mainly spoke Aramaic. In the Aramaic language there is no distinction between the two words. The only meaning in the Aramaic language for rock is large bolder. (He continued.) HIM: We do have Jesus quoted in the Gospels speaking Aramaic, but the Gospels are written in Greek. (I thought to myself, “Did you hear what you just said? I never even thought about it that way before.” If Jesus is speaking Aramaic when He is directly quoted in Scripture, how could anyone not believe he spoke Aramaic? And in the Aramaic language, Jesus could only have been referring to Peter as the large bolder on which He would build His Church.) ME: As you probably know, the Gospels are believed to have been written decades after Christ ascended into heaven. The Gospel of Mark is believed to have been written around 70 A.D., Matthew around 80 A.D., Luke around 80-90 A.D. and John around 90-100 A.D. This does not lead us to believe that Jesus spoke Greek just because they were written in Greek. HIM: In the Greek text, Jesus says to Peter, You are Petros, which means small rock, and on this Petra, which means massive boulder, I will build My Church. The first rock is Peter and the second is Jesus Himself. (Pulling out my Bible, I said,) ME: Let’s take a look at the Scripture and read it in context to get the full and proper meaning. Is the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition okay with you? (I opened it and began to read from verse 16 of Matthew 16. He broke into a fit of rage. I was very shocked! I totally didn’t expect him to react that way!) HIM: NO! NO! NO! You are not answering my question! (Infuriated, he began walking away.) ME: Sir, sir, sir! Please calm down! I just want to see the Scripture and what it says to make sure we don’t take it out of context and misinterpret it. If you take a line of Scripture and pull it out of context, you cannot find the true meaning of the passage. (He stopped for a moment and looked back at me.) HIM: I am not going to continue this conversation because you can’t answer my question. ME: Sir, please let us look at the Scriptures. (There were a group of bird watchers in the park observing a hawk’s nest with a baby hawk in it. His original purpose in coming to the park was to observe the baby hawk. Just before he began to walk away again, he condescendingly said to me,) HIM: I am going to go over there and look at the hawk’s nest. You study up. When I come back, I will give you another chance to come up with something. Study up now! (I looked over at my teammates and asked, “What was that all about?” They just shrugged their shoulders and made a facial expression that said, “I don’t know.” The man returned, and I began to address him.) ME: Sir, please bear with me as I read this passage out loud for us so that we can understand it in its proper context. (I begin reading.) HIM: No, no, no. You don’t know what you are saying. You don’t have an answer for me. You Catholics are so busy bowing down to priests and Bishops that you don’t even know how to answer these things. (I realized he was trying to create a diversion. I think he was afraid that I was going to answer his question. This would be difficult for him to handle because it would mean he would have to admit he was wrong. He would then either continue living in a lie or have to convert to the truth. He continued speaking.) HIM: Did you know that in some areas you are NOT EVEN ALLOWED to discuss Scripture in public without the permission of the Bishop? I could go tell the Bishop right now what you are doing out here and you would be in serious trouble, maybe even excommunicated! (I threw my arms up in submission and said with deep sincerity,) ME: Sir please do! If I am sinning, I repent and will respond in obedience. I’d rather be silenced than spread something that isn’t true. (He turned to my companions and began addressing the question of Petros and Petra to them.) HIM: How about you? Maybe you can answer my question since your friend here doesn’t seem to know what he is talking about. (It didn’t bother me that he kept putting me down; it bothered me that he didn’t even want to hear the Scripture in its proper context.) ME: Sir, please allow me to explain this to you. Just give me a chance. HIM: You cannot answer my question, so why should I talk to you? ME: Sir, please just hear me out. (Finally, he stopped and listened.) ME: As you know, the Gospel of Matthew is very deeply rooted in the Old Testament and constantly depicts Jesus fulfilling Old Testament prophecy. Matthew 16:16-19 reads, “Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the KEYS of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you BIND on earth shall be BOUND in heaven, and whatever you LOOSE on earth shall be LOOSED in heaven.” Now let us turn to the prophet Isaiah and read chapter 22:20-25. “In that day I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your girdle on him, and will commit your authority to his hand; and he shall be a father (Pope) to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. And I will place on his shoulder the KEY of the house of David; he shall OPEN, and none shall SHUT; and he shall SHUT, and none shall OPEN. And I will fasten him like a peg in a sure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his father’s house. And they will hang on him the whole weight of his father’s house, the offspring and issue, every small vessel, from the cups to all the flagons.” The important thing here is to know who Eliakim was. Do you know who Eliakim was? HIM: No. ME: Eliakim was the Prime Minister for the Davidic King Hezekiah. In the Davidic Kingdom, there was a hierarchy. David set this hierarchy up so that he could keep the kingdom united. Under the King was his Prime Minister. Under the Prime Minister were ministers. The Prime Minister was given the KEYS of the kingdom, which meant he was given the authority of the King to make decisions in the King’s absence. The Prime Minister was the “go between,” between the King and his people. Jesus was a Davidic King, which means His Kingship descended from the line of David. Jesus always fulfilled what took place in the Old Testament and brought it to a new level. Jesus modeled His kingdom after the one that prefigured it in the Old Testament, which was David’s kingdom, but Jesus brought it to a new level. His kingdom would stretch around the entire globe! He gave the KEYS (authority) of the kingdom to His Prime Minister (Pope). Under His Prime Minister were placed ministers (Bishops) to spiritually govern the people. They would ensure that the king’s message reached all of the people in his kingdom. By using Eliakim and Hezekiah, the prophet was speaking in terms that the people of his time could relate to. They knew what Isaiah meant when he referred to the Prime Minister Eliakim as the focus of this prophecy. (When I finished my explanation, the man exploded with rage!) HIM: I am not talking to you anymore. You still cannot answer my question! (He began to step back and move away as his anger increased. I made it a point to be very calm and peaceful throughout the conversation and very calmly replied.) ME: Sir, sir, please relax. Do you have peace in your life? Jesus gives peace, peace that the world does not give. HIM: The devil. You are getting it from the devil. He can give fake peace. You Catholics are followers of the whore of Babylon. ME: Sir, can we pray together? Let us pray for peace in our lives and in our hearts so that we can hear the Lord. HIM: No way, no way! I will not pray with any Catholic! ME: I did not mean to offend you in any way. I was simply trying to help you understand the meaning of this passage. (After some pleading and calm speaking, he began to calm down. I decided to turn the tables and ask him a challenging question since he had asked me so many.) ME: Sir, I know you do not believe in the Catholic Church, but I was wondering if you could explain how you understand this one Scripture passage. I would like to know what non-Catholics think when they read this passage. (He nodded his head, agreeing to listen. I turned to the Gospel of John chapter six.) ME: I will just start at verse fifty, “This is the bread which comes down from heaven that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I give for the life of the world is MY FLESH.” HIM: No, no, no. I am not going to stand here and listen to this symbolic ----. ME: But sir, these are the words of our Lord Jesus Himself! (He began to walk away quickly without looking back! There was nothing I could do but let him go. As he left, I said,) ME: Sir, may God bless you and keep you in His love. Thank you for your time. This was the first time I had ever experienced anything like this. I was surprised that someone could know so much about the Catholic Church and still not accept that it is the one true Church.

"These types of books do not come along very often. Once I started reading them I found it too hard to put them down. Your books made me stop and look within my own self! How I had been living, and how I needed to change. It has made me want a deeper commitment with my own Catholic faith. You are a rare person with a wonderful writing talent that can only come from God. Please continue to use that GIFT! God Bless You." - Wayne "I am very inspired by your book Will You Spread My Word For Me? I am glad that God put this book in my path and at the perfect timing of course. I too was raised Catholic yet never practiced my religion until one day my husband received healing by receiving the Eucharist (this was about 10 yrs ago). We started to go to Church every Sunday since. The past 5-6 months have been eye openers for me. I’ve come across some very interesting books that have helped me grow and understand God, Jesus, and the Bible. Yours has been the most inspirational to me, I think because I can read it and understand it easily (I’m not an avid reader). Also, the fact that you are focused completely on our religion and the different ways we work on God’s will daily. It all makes sense to me now. I know I have a lot to learn because I’m way behind on the scale… but I know it’s my time now and that’s why he revealed himself to me. I’m very thankful that God put your book in my path because it has taught me many things I didn’t know about my religion... I know that I’ve Got To Change will definitely be an inspiration for my kids as I’ve shared some events with them already. Thank you for your teachings and for sharing your experiences with us. May God continue to bless you and yours!" Veronica Lopez "I read your book Will You Spread My Word For Me? and I must say it helped immeasurably with my understanding on just how important it is to receive the Eucharist. I have heard my whole life that it is the “Body of Christ”…but never really understood what it meant until I read your book. Additionally, you helped me understand for the first time why the Mass is structured the way it is and why it is important. Keep up the good work. God bless." - Mike Bevilacqua (Business owner)
